Almost mid march already

Been swamped with work and didn’t get to update the blog in a while . The last couple of days, I’d been out early in the morning to Empire Theatre and came home round 11pm, ready just for my bed . So far March has been amazing to me, a project I was involved in, for Discovery Travel and Living was broadcast just last week. It was Antony Worrall Thompson’s tour of Brunei and I was assigned to do location photography for this…also umm my first tour to Belalong lol, I sure felt like a tourist myself! A big Thank you to Rano and Zari, much much appreciated

The last few weeks, I’ve been packed with newborn/baby photography, weddings, private family portraiture, hair salon shoots, event coverage, meetings with clients etc please do excuse me if I’m a teeny weeny bit late in replying your emails. I’m off to an event in a sec and another one tonite so will be back late again….Monday’s usually my off day, I guess I’ll catch a break tomorrow and then follow up on editing/emails on Wednesday.

Just a picture from the amazing JIS Showcase 2011 I had just covered, this is the last showcase at the Empire Theatre as next year JIS will be using their new Art and Music centre for the concert. Here’s hoping I’ll be at the new centre next year..can’t wait!

Just a quick one before I pack my bag and fly off in couple of hours. This is from the finale of the dance showcase, love the costume and the feel of this final edit. Picture like this just screams to be printed as big as possible { personally I think 4R is too small to fully appreciate an image, try printing a picture you like, 8 x 12 and above, you may just like it }

Apology, haven’t updated in awhile, sometimes life just gets in the way . Here’s a short update before I fly off for a course pretty soon ; continuous education is vital ). Just last week I covered a major dance act last week comprising of hundreds of students, am in the midst of finishing up before I fly off. I’ll post a pic or two from that session perhaps tomorrow, you may see my pictures appearing in the paper too.

Here’s something I just did. Majority of my work are on location: homes, work spaces, outdoor… adapting to any working situations is a must for us. The pictures below were taken at a friend’s home, just a normal home, like yours and mine . I requested just a simple shirt & jeans as well as minimal make up by herself. My priority for this shoot was to get a punchy black and white just like in an ad I’ve seen and I used it as my reference. After getting the images I wanted, I explored different editing styles to add to my expanding repertoire.

PS: She’s not a model btw, just a girl next door

Chinese Wedding 5th June 10

Congrats to my ex-schoolmate Mei Chun and ex-colleague Yun Onn on their joyous wedding. Sure was a pleasure covering the wedding also I got to see some of our mutual friends whom I have not seen in quite awhile.

Custom album

Finally received this album sometime mid last week, with the volcano in Iceland acting up the delivery was delayed. I was getting worried when it didn’t arrive as scheduled especially when this was my most expensive album. Since this was handmade, the production itself took a month and won’t be fun waiting for a replacement.

This is from the flush mount series and my client chose a high quality hand woven decorative silk brocade from a wide selection of leather/silk/faux leather/suede available. I’m not into the typical wedding album i.e. the boring black leather kind …or grey….or red; it’s just not me and not what I want to offer. You can understand if I had been on my feet covering a wedding for more than 20 hours and a week plus editing and designing that I refuse having my work presented on a newspaper thin album. I want something that’ll last years and years; after the wedding events, the food, the celebration, the album is the only thing that enables you to look back on your special day years from now. The album below was made with genuine photographic prints and most importantly coated! That makes it easy to care for. For the page style, I chose round corners for my client as they’re less likely to be damaged compared to square corners. For this album, since I have pictures that are ultrawide/with landscape, I selected the full spreads style i.e. it has the seamless look with no gap in the middle of the album; a more modern and trendy looking album .

What else can I say bout the album: it’s modern looking, heavy but plush and thick. Trendy looking and the colours plus black and white pictures are just gorgeous. Since this was my first album from a different series, I had a custom handmade album cover made just for my client as a gift (the one in gold ribbon). Perfect combination! Prices for wedding album starts from $700 – $3500 ++ depending on the size and options you choose.

Launching of Pink Desserts Recipe Book

Will take place at Casa Esperanza tomorrow 30th May 2010 from 1 to 6. You can find some more details regarding the event here. There will be a mini bazaar where you can get hold of food/goodies etc, do come and support for a good cause. Part of the sales will be donated to Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group. You can also get hold of the Pink Desserts Recipe book for just $10! Yes 50 plus recipes for just tenner, that’s reasonably priced for shooor. I contributed some pictures for this booklet and when I received my copy last Wednesday as I was invited for a dinner at Esperanza,was honoured to have one of my pics used on the cover! Here’s hoping my work to be on more book/magazine covers ;P

Working on Lighting

One of the main challenges in what we do is seeing the light and what to do when it’s not flattering. This portrait was done in a quite dark environment, if my first instinct was to use the on camera flash, this picture would not have come to light. Processed with my signature black & white action with very slight toning. For the still photo, I was practicing what could be done with just 1 light.
