I have quite a few inquiries already for weddings next year after the month of June, I’ve not finalised my pricelist for next year yet and I’m still waiting for samples from album suppliers. I just need to be sure I’m happy with the album supplier before offering them to anyone.

Sometimes I wish I had more time in a day, there’s so much I wanna do and try out. Lately I’ve been doing some commercial stuff and fashion & portraiture shoots. they were a lot of fun but takes up quite a bit of time especially in the processing part for the later shoots.  I have a few weddings left to cover for this year and I will not be taking anymore wedding assignments until at least June 2012, taking a 6 months break from wedding coverage(there’s just so much to explore still). Been getting quite a few inquiries for 2012 already, I apologise having to turn them all down, just made this decision. I want more time for maternity & family shoot, fashion/personal/executive portraiture as well prewedding or postwedding shoot while still having some ‘me time’ leftover just for myself and people around me. I was talking to a client and many popular venues are booked way way in advance and the same for the popular make up artists; don’t wait too long. Regarding M.U.A.  Always do a make up trial before deciding on a make up artist. Everyone’s idea of what constitutes a nice make up may differ GREATLY.

A few questions that came up in emails these few days. Do I do studio portraiture of wedding couple? It’s not something I offer…why? I don’t feel it, it’s a ‘very’ personal preference for not offering that, I’ll leave my wedding portraiture away from plain white/black backdrop.  Just for the record, this is not a knock at all on those offering this kind of services…it’s not you, it’s ME . The kind of photography I like is very much influenced by my own experiences and surroundings, I have pictures of me when I was a kid round the garden with overgrown weed, on top of a dirty car etc. Regardless of how ‘picture imperfect’ the surroundings were, those pictures are undoubtedly priceless to me, a memory of my past, where I was and what it was like and REAL. I would like my clients to have those too, images of a place/places of significant importance to them/place that matters; be they the place where they first met, what they do as a couple and gives them the feeling of togetherness…

With that being said, I can see myself using a studio setting for other kinds of photography where I need to take the environment out of the background, e.g. for a product shoot or fashion based where the clothing may be the star lol.

Another question that cropped up is regarding my choice of album for the top package. Think of it as a boutique range of album, it’s of high quality, thick pages, coated to ensure longevity and resist print colour fading and furthermore many album choices to suit ‘you’. Funky- you got it, whimsical- you got it, classical- you got it too, edgy- Sure thing!! It’s at a super bargain price ‘atm’ considering the high initial cost of the product.

This is from the flush mount series and my client chose a high quality hand woven decorative silk brocade from a wide selection of leather/silk/faux leather/suede available. I’m not into the typical wedding album i.e. the boring black leather kind …or grey….or red; it’s just not me and not what I want to offer. You can understand if I had been on my feet covering a wedding for more than 20 hours and a week plus editing and designing that I refuse having my work presented on a newspaper thin album. I want something that’ll last years and years; after the wedding events, the food, the celebration, the album is the only thing that enables you to look back on your special day years from now. The album below was made with genuine photographic prints and most importantly coated! That makes it easy to care for. For the page style, I chose round corners for my client as they’re less likely to be damaged compared to square corners. For this album, since I have pictures that are ultrawide/with landscape, I selected the full spreads style i.e. it has the seamless look with no gap in the middle of the album; a more modern and trendy looking album .

What else can I say bout the album:  it’s modern looking, heavy but plush and thick. Trendy looking and the colours plus black and white pictures are just gorgeous. Since this was my first album from a different series, I had a custom handmade album cover made just for my client as a gift (the one in gold ribbon). Perfect combination!  Prices for wedding album starts from $700 – $3500 ++  depending on the size and options you choose.

These pictures are what I called ‘Level 2′ edits, the editing can take up much more time than I spend taking the pictures. Certain specialised ‘tools’ for photographers are used to get the look I’m looking for; I used to offer these as a bonus even for shoot and burn but because of the massive time consumed, now I’ll offer these as an option. I have two more weddings coming up within the next two weeks and then I’ll be taking a long break and restructuring my services. I’ll be doing more portrait sessions, commercial and corporate events and that’s most likely to leave me with not a lot of time left for wedding coverage.  I may only take one per month or every two month next year…another reason being I want to grow as a photographer. It’s like if you stay in one place all the time, that’s all you get to know. I want to venture into different field, some things I just got to get my hands dirty to have a feel of it, big difference in knowing/reading and actually doing it.
